Back to ROMA / FRASCATI.
We left Lucca to go back to Frascati first and then Rome where we stayed several nights.
On our way between 2 cities, meaning we had all our luggage in the car, our laptop and tablet and purse (luckily quite empty) were stolen from the car in Ostia while we were on the beach for one - only one - hour. No passports nor credit cards were gone, but the annoyance of losing the computer, having to change passwords, go to the store buy another one, go back the next day as it was not working will be rememberd. But well, there are worse things in life and this was part of the learning experience. However, now I cannot download any picture from my camera any more (and certainly not via Google any more as I did the last times (try that with a mini tablet !!) and will take pictures with the new tablet hoping I can download them easily in this blog. Also, this is an Italian keyboard ..... a bit different from the one I am used to use.
We still love Rome and the city of Rome itself is now also a contender.
Next part of the quest , Sanremo.
Seems adding pictures is not possible today, I will try further and update this article when I will have understood how it works (good luck!!).
YESSSSSS I FOUND A DESKTOP AND COULD ADD PICTURES, HOURAH.

Do NOT take pictures !
C'est clair, non? PAS de photos.
Medici fortress, 1342, is nowadays the prison.
Une prison dans un ancient palais episcopal. On parfait justement de culture.

Poffertjes !!!!!!!
VOLTERRA "Street Food"
Even the Italians start to include more english words in daily life as indeed, the official name of this fest is Street Food.
Viva Argentina ... un as ado.
VOLTERRA
Leve Belgie, natuurlijk, Belgisch bier.
Still VOLTERRA.
Vista from the Etruscan city of VOLTERRA.
Bella Italia.
Not at our best, but at least here we are (selfie without stick and without even a smartphone, the old way)
Italian prisons use art as rehabilitation. Volterra's one is even high security. Nevertheles, there is a theatre company.
Do NOT take pictures !
C'est clair, non? PAS de photos.
Medici fortress, 1342, is nowadays the prison.
Une prison dans un ancient palais episcopal. On parfait justement de culture.
Sulla Piazza dei Priori, the oldest town hall of Tuscany, 1210. It is said to have served as example for the one in Florence.
For some, these are just stupid stones, but for others this is a while world, a whole area, people building the wall, people living amidst them, just yesteryear.
If you have been following this blog for some time, you maybe remember that I love what Italians do with palets, they are "ze king of ze palettes".
GELATO !
Do not believe Tripadvisor etc, their best is not necessarily our best. It was good (Italian ice cream is always good!) but not to be number one according to Philip who knows a lot about the gelati.
Enel Green Power S.p.A.
Renewable energy in the middle of Tuscany.
All the shiny little lines you see on (merely) the right of the picture are part of this long pipeline.
ANZIO
Beach Head War Cemetery
Historical Information
On 3 September 1943 the Allies invaded the Italian mainland, the invasion coinciding with an armistice made with the Italians who then re-entered the war on the Allied side.
Progress through southern Italy was rapid despite stiff resistance, but by the end of October, the Allies were facing the German winter defensive position known as the Gustav Line, which stretched from the river Garigliano in the west to the Sangro in the east. Initial attempts to breach the western end of the line were unsuccessful. Operations in January 1944 landed troops behind the German lines at Anzio, but defences were well organised, and a breakthrough was not actually achieved until May.
The site of the cemetery originally lay close to a casualty clearing station. Burials were made direct from the battlefield after the landings at Anzio and later, after the Army had moved forward, many graves were brought in from the surrounding country.
Beach Head War Cemetery contains 2,316 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, 295 of them unidentified. There is also one First World War burial which was brought into the cemetery from Chiete Communal Cemetery near Rome.
The cemetery was designed by Louis de Soissons.

ANZIO BEACH.
ANZIO BEACH
Bon, quand on dit "maison" ... il faut relativer.
How would you feel laying on the beach next to the ruines of a 2000 year old house ? yes, that old !
Nero's palace.
Because of some technicality I am unable to have the poor Nero stand on his feet, so you now have to take your computer and put it on its side.
Multilingual.
